As I do more and more stamping, and expand my collection of plates and stamping polishes, I find myself trying to lower the barrier to entry for friends and budding nail enthusiasts, by recommending easy to find, and inexpensive polishes to stamp with. Today I’m going to be comparing 4 warm metallic polishes, 2 MdU, and 2 Sally Hansen.

Mundo de Unas – Gold

MdU-Gold

MdU Gold is a fairly standard, very opaque yellow gold stamping polish. Very thick, it works in stamping designs of all kinds. Because the polish is so viscous, care must be taken to scrape ALL excess off of the plate, as having too much can end up with images like above, where the stamp slid and looks a little gloopy/messy. From a distance, the stamp still looks nice and the gold is opaque over both light and dark colours, but a macro shot like above shows the squishy fine details.

Stamps very well over dark and light colours.

Mundo de Unas – Bronze

MdU-Bronze

MdU Bronze has the expected bronze tone, more red in undertone than MdU Gold. this polish has the same consistency as the gold, but you can see my scraping and stamping technique was better here and results in a cleaner image even in macro. This polish stamps over light and dark colours equally well.

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri – Go For Gold

SH-Go-Fo-Gold-3

Go For Gold is a unique polish in the realm of gold stamping polishes. It’s actually both glittery and a great stamper! Rather than the traditional foil finish that makes many metallic polishes good for stamping, Go For gold has such tiny and densely packed glitter pigment that it manages to stamp cleanly while still maintaining the opacity to be used over light and dark polish bases. The undertone of this polish results in it ending up in between the MdU bronze and gold shades. It’s more red and than gold, but it’s not a bronze tone.

Sally Hansen Color Foil – Yellow Gold

SH-Color-Foil-Yellow-Gold-2

The name of this polish is literally Yellow Gold, but I’d call it more of a White Gold. A little more subtle than I expected this to be, it still shows up decently over other polishes, and is easy to pick up and transfer with both a firm and squishy stamper. I can’t find this product on the Sally Hansen website anymore, but I did pick it up fairly recently in a discount bin at Shoppers Drug mart. You may still be able to find leftover stock at your local retailer.
